How You can Get Past Obstacles to Better Fitness

By Larry Guiseler

Many people want to get fit but find that something is always getting in the way. Excuses like having no time, physical limitations, and lack of motivation are easy to find when it comes to avoiding an exercise routine. Here are some ideas to help get beyond typical obstacles to getting fit. Many people blame a lack of time for not beginning or sticking with an exercise routine.

It can be hard to find time to go to the gym or go for a jog between work and family responsibilities. If you look at your schedule, though, you may find that you aren't making the most of your time. But one study shows that on average, people in the U.S. watch five hours of television every day. Cutting that number in half would give you more time for fitness related activities. Computer games, trivial phone calls, and text messaging are other time wasters. When you cut back on unproductive activities, you will have more time to exercise.

Incorporating your workout into your daily life is a good way to find more time for exercise. One way to incorporate exercise is to run or ride a bike to work instead of driving. If you work in an office, you can take a power walk during your lunch hour. Your pet will love the extra exercise your giving him when you take him for a jog, pets are great exercise buddies. Make an effort to take the stairs up to your office instead of always depending on the elevator to get you to work. This way you get the most benefit from your daily routine and a little exercise too. Getting more exercise throughout the day will help you resolve your time issues where fitness is concerned.

One reason people use to not exercise is being tired and having low energy levels which is also a symptom of poor fitness. People who don't get enough sleep, which is common problem, will obviously feel tired all the time. Maintaining physical activity can be difficult or even dangerous when you're sleep deprived, making it hard to feel like exercising. You need to let your doctor know if you have serious issues with insomnia but otherwise you can get some help by making changes to your diet and routine. Try avoiding stimulants in the evening to make it easier to fall asleep and you may be able to get to bed earlier by turning of the TV or computer earlier.

All you really need to do is set your mind to it in order to get around any obstacles. You will prevail if you work hard to find the time you need for hit activity like doing workouts using a home exercise bike machine that is going to help with your fitness goals. Sometimes the best thing you can do is reorganize your priorities no matter how hard that maybe it's going to be worth your effort. The above strategies can be used as a guideline to overcoming obstacles to fitness.
